Hiking enthusiast blurs boundary between work and play

Noryne Robinson, Information Specialist, Mt. Hood Regional Visitor Information Center, has logged many trail miles in her life. Her earliest experiences were on the trails in the San Bernadino National Forest, where she and her father were photographed atop Mt. San Gorgonio (Old Grayback) at 11,499'...the highest peak between the Sierra Nevada mountain range and the Mexican border. She was seven years old at the time.

Noryne has since climbed seven more peaks, including Mt. Hood in spring of 2006. She is looking forward to climbing both Mt. Adams in Washington and Mt. Thielsen in the Central Oregon Cascades in the near future.

Since she starting working fulltime at the Information Center in 2002, Noryne has still found time to log about 550 trail miles, mostly in the Mt. Hood National Forest. With a discerning eye for the plants, birds and animals she encounters along the way, Noryne is building a memorable photo library of her experiences.

Noryne also enjoys canoeing, kayaking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. She recently joined the Wilderness Stewards program with the USDA Forest Service.

Noryne and her husband Doug live in Rhododendron in a carefully crafted restoration of an old log home.

Love hiking? Stop by the Mt. Hood Regional Visitor Information Center (503.622.4822) and chat with Noryne...she may have the latest information based on her experiences. July/August 2006
