...Tips for Making your Stay Memorable
Choosing a cabin in the woods can be a great way to spend a family vacation, romantic rendezvous or relaxing getaway. Mt. Hood cabins are often surrounded by intimate natural views such as forested areas or streams, bringing the mountain's natural beauty right to your doorstep. Many cabins can also be more isolated which provides a greater sense of privacy.
In truth, a cabin stay can offer all the creature comforts of home, and for this reason alone you may find them to be an exceptional value for your lodging dollars.
Mt. Hood is becoming more and more well-known for its lodging cabins. They are available in very diverse styles, amenities and settings. To find a perfect fit for your needs, take a few moments to consider these questions.
LOCATION: How important is it to be on the river, near the golf course, skiing, shopping, etc.? How important is the view to you? Is the cabin secluded or is it in a mountain neighborhood (most of which are on gravel roads, without sidewalks or street lights)?
TIMELINE: How flexible can you be with your booking date? You might want to jot down alternate dates before calling in your reservations.
PRICE: You may want to have a budget range to keep in mind as learn a property's location, furnishing, amenities, etc.
ACCOMODATIONS: Is the cabin a stand-alone home or will you share walls with other guests? How many people will be in your group (number of adults and children)? How many bedrooms will you need and what type of sleeping arrangements do you prefer? Check to see if the cabin is equipped with real beds and of what size. This will help clarify which are sofa beds, futons or cots. Some cabins have plenty of bunkbeds which are perfect for large groups. Do the bedrooms have doors and walls for privacy, or are there lofts and sleeping areas?
Are linens provided for bed, bath and kitchen? What level of housekeeping services do they offer? Do they have maid services available if requested during a stay?
COMFORT: How will you heat your cabin? If you hear "fireplace" or "woodstove," ask if there is also a furnace or other heating source. If there is a fireplace or woodstove, can you burn real firewood or just duraflame type of logs? Is the firewood provided?
FUNCTION: Does the cabin have a full kitchen that will suit your needs (insure it matches what you mean by "full" kitchen)? Or will you prefer a kitchenette? Be sure to ask about pots, pans and utensils. Will you need a dishwasher?
PETS: Is the home pet-friendly (just dogs or all types of critters?)? Or is it pet-free for those with allergies?
PROXIMITY: How close is the cabin to activities and recreation, hiking, golf, fishing, restaurants, shops, etc? Can the host provide concierge services, if needed?
MISCELLANEOUS: If there is a hot tub, is it secluded, outdoors, shared with other people or is a jetted bathtub inside? How frequently is it maintained? What about Smoking versus Non-Smoking? Is it handicap accessible throughout? Do you need a covered parking area or structure? Do you need cancellation insurance or travel-related insurance?
