MOUNTAIN PERSONALITY
Who is Tim Windell?
Former snowboarding pro,Tim Windell, a two-time World Cup co-champion, opened his Mt. Hood-based Windell's Camp in 1988. "There were few places you could train in the halfpipe," says Windell. "My thought was, 'Why don't we start these camps and invite pros up to ride halfpipes for a few months?'" Although it was fun, it didn't take much for Windell to see that "camp" has always been associated with "kids" for a reason. In 1991, he reconsidered his marketing strategy and started catering to kids. He bought the then-closed Shamrock Motel in Sleepy Hollow and converted it to a 3-season camp. Today, the camp hosts several thousand campers during eight summer sessions. Windell has committed his sense of fun to the camp's slogan posted on their highway 26 sign, "Windell's, The Funnest Place on Earth."
