SEPTEMBER 5, 12, 19 & 22
Basic Fly Fishing Lessons at The Fly Fishing Shop. Lessons will cover beginning to intermediate levels and will consist of 3 classes and one on-the-water field outing on September 22. Equipment provided. Instructor Ron Lauzon is an FFF Certified Fly Casting Instructor & Guide. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14
Newton-Clark Glacier Tour with the Hood River Watershed Group. A moderate to difficult 7-mile round trip hike with a 2,200 Ft gain in elevation. Recent geologic activity on many of Mt Hood's glaciers including massive slope failures, debris flows, creek blockages & glacial recession will be studied. Witness first hand the ice, rock and mud. USFS geologist Tom DeRoo will lead a group to Gnarl Ridge for a unique opportunity to view, photograph and understand the conditions below Newton-Clark Glacier. $15. 9:00am - 5:00pm. 541-386-2055

Timberline Marathon on the Pacific Crest Trail. This is Oregon's signature TRAIL running event and you also earn Trail Runner Trophy Series points! The beautiful course follows a stunning segment of the Pacific Crest Trail from historic Timberline Lodge high on Mt Hood to shimmering Timothy Lake nestled in the high Cascades. There is a 3000 foot net elevation loss - yeah, it's like running downhill! Every finisher gets a custom medal and memories for a lifetime. Start Time is 8:30am sharp. SATURDAY & SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 & 16
Mt Hood Festival of the Forest & the Last Hurrah Reunion at Wildwood Park. A celebration of arts, culture and the forest, featuring more than 12 hours of live music with local artists and forest activity booths. Build a bluebird's dream house, learn about fly-tying or talk with Forest Service wildlife biologists, botanists and other specialists. Delicious huckleberry pancakes will be served each morning from 8am to Noon and live music performances from Noon to 6pm each day on the Wildwood Stage. This year, a special twenty-year reunion of bands from The Last Hurrah will be playing on center stage! This once-in-a-lifetime music reunion will rekindle the creative music spirit that permeated Portland’s original music community between 1975–1990. SEPTEMBER 15-23
Pioneer History Camp at the White River Station Campground. The history camp is along the Barlow Road (the last overnight segment of the Oregon Trail). The setting will be that of an 1840's pioneer camp including a pioneer wagon, trunk with clothes, tin ware, period dishes, cast iron Dutch ovens, bags of dried foods and a basket of children's toys from the time period for kids to try out. Interpreters live in tents, cook in Dutch ovens and dress in pioneer clothing. Admission is free. Open daily, 9:00 AM - 5:00pm. 541-467-2291

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 16
Timberline Half Marathon on the Pacific Crest Trail. Get ready for the most picturesque half marathon course in the Pacific Northwest! The Timberline Half Marathon completely circles shimmering Timothy Lake on single track trails that are absolutely a runner's dream. This gem is nestled at 3000 feet in the high Cascades and the views of Mt. Hood across the lake are extraordinary. Runner's traverse three rustic bridges over sparkling tributaries that feed the deep blue waters of the lake. The course is full of small elevation changes and twists and turns making it very interesting and challenging. Every finisher gets a custom medal and commemorative race T-shirt. Mt Hood Heritage Days at Mt Hood Cultural Center & Museum. This annual celebration of Mt. Hood’s outdoor recreation heritage gets bigger and better each year. Highlights of the days activities include; museum open house, with knowledgeable docents staffing all galleries, Off To Mt. Hood collectible car Cruise-In and Westleg Road Hill Climb, Special Family Passes to Ski Bowl Adventure Park, Historical guided walks and hikes, Music, Food, Silent Auction, Raffles and more. Information stations by US Forest Service, National Volcano Observatory, outdoor recreation clubs and others we be featured. SkiBowl Adventure Park special value passes good for most of the activities and lunch. Learn the Art of Blacksmithing with Darryl Nelson of Fire Mountain Forge at The Arts Cabins in Government Camp. Two-hour classes, limited to 4 students per class. Visitors welcome to observe blacksmiths at work. 503-272-3301

National Public Lands Day. Enjoy access to all Mt Hood National Forest trail heads free of charge as well as no parking fees at all day use areas managed by 1000 Trails.

DAILY THROUGH OCTOBER 1
Raptor Migration Education with HawkWatch International, a non-profit group that monitors and protects hawks, eagles & other birds of prey, through research, education and conservation. HawkWatch employees and volunteers will be collecting data for their fall migration project up on Bonney Butte. The public is welcome to come and learn about the migration project and the raptors. 800-726-4295.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY, OCTOBER 3-23
Mountain High XVI-Timberline Lodge Art Show. This year's theme for the show is "In The Shadows of Mt. Hood." It will celebrate the arts and crafts of local mountain residents. Numerous works from selected local artisans will be on display in the Lodge.


SATURDAY & SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6-7
Mt Hood Salmon & Mushroom Festival at Mt Hood Village RV Resort. Two of the Northwest's greatest bounties are the salmon and wild mushrooms, which are the honored celebrities at this festival. This two-day, family-oriented festival is held during the month of October to welcome home the return of the salmon to the streams of Oregon's Mt. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14
The Wild About Game Festival will return to The Resort at the Mountain on October 14. Starting at 11:00am, The Balmoral Bar & Highlands Restaurant will host a wonderful day of wild game demonstrations and tastings including the works of celebrity chefs. Pricing for the event day pass is $20 per person. (this is for admission to demonstrations and food samplings). The Wild Game Feast Dinner will start at 4:30pm. The per person ticket cost is $50 including gratuity.
