What's New

in the Villages of Mt Hood

Salmon River Road (Forest Road 2618) has been reopened. A portion of the road was washed out during last November’s storms, blocking access to some of Mt Hood’s most popular trails and campgrounds.  This road provides access to the popular Salmon River Trail, Old Salmon River Trail, Salmon Butte Trail, and Green Canyon Campground. Trailhead parking passes (Northwest Forest Pass, Golden Age/Golden Access or other valid recreational pass) is required for all parking along the road.

Green Canyon Campground is open to the public for free camping.  However services are very limited since there is no water, trash service, cleaning crew, or campground hosts.  Campers are asked to "pack it in and pack it out."  Please bring trash bags and pack out all trash.  The Forest Service will continue to provide a camping experience to the public at this location as long as campers are able to keep the campground reasonably free of trash.

Forest Road 1825 is expected to reopen by mid-September.  Progress is being made on the installation of the temporary bridge across the Sandy River (also washed out in the November storm).  This road provides access to the Ramona Falls, Burnt Lake, Horseshoe and Cast Creek Trailheads, as well Lost Creek (handicap accessible), McNeil and Riley Campgrounds (horse camp).

Skyway Bar & Grill on Highway 26 in Zig Zag has reopened.  Co-owners Tom & Tracie Anderson say they have added a whimsical new fence to create more privacy for the expanded outside dining area.  The menu will feature “genuine barbecue” by Chef Jason Hornor.  Look for live music on the weekends.  Open Thursday – Sunday for dinner. 503-622-3775.

Busy Bee Catering is ready to cater your next wedding, birthday, anniversary, open house, picnic or business meeting.  Owner, Jan Ostrom says “I love to do the planning, the shopping, the cooking – all the details.  There’s no part of entertaining that I don’t like.”  She also offers precooked meals to families on vacation who might not want to cook; she makes ready-to-heat meals for a week or a weekend for your vacation cabin.  Busy Bee offers 25 entrees to go, all made from scratch including favorites like Sesame Pork Tenderloin, Reuben Casserole, Sloppy Joes, Chicken Enchiladas as well as several salads and appetizers. 503-622-6743.
