New Gifts & Collectibles
Passage to India is a new gift shop located at the Snowline Motel in Rhododendron featuring imported items from India. The shop, which is located in the lobby of the motel, features a colorful selection of shawls, skirts, shirts, handbags, pillows and pillow covers, tablecloths, crafts, incense and other hand-made items from India. There are also a few pieces of unique and different artwork. The items in the shop are mostly made by artisans in a small village in northern India. Cheetalolita’s sells unique hand-painted glassware and collectibles, candles plus cabins decor. Many of the gifts sport a cheetah motif. 503-272-0254
Handwerker Arts is a store and gallery featuring kiln-formed and mosaic glass art created by Oregon artists. The gallery also features paintings, photography, fiber arts and jewelry, much of which is made on-site by local crafters. 503-267-0879
New Delectibles
High Mountain Bakery and Deli offers a yummy selection of rolls, muffins, cakes, cookies and other goodies all baked on the premises. They also serve a variety of sandwiches and deli items, teas, juices and sodas. Stop in for a PowerPam bar made of peanut butter, chocolate and cereal. Seating is provided for a winter hot chocolate and treat break from the snow. 503-272-3059
New Recreation Services
Mt Hood Adventure is a recreation concierge service that makes arrangements for year-round tours and rentals including snowshoeing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing in the winter and rock-climbing, hiking, kayaking and canoeing and mountain biking in the summer. Their local staff is also very knowledgeable about Mt Hood information. New Improvements
The Resort at the Mountain in Welches is getting a face-lift in the form of multiple upgrades scheduled to begin this winter. According to the new owners, Coastal Hotel Group, renovations will begin in the main building, meeting and banquet rooms and 158 guest rooms. Each guest room will have a built-in wide-screen TV, high-quality beds and linens, fireplaces and remodeled bathrooms. Coming this winter will be improved bellhop, concierge and guest services for hotel guests as well as transportation to the ski resorts.
A new 9-room spa will be constructed with a targeted opening date of Thanksgiving this year. Other plans in the works will be to construct a completely new golf-course side restaurant to replace the aging Tartans plus a new pro shop and 40 to 80 new guest rooms, all expected to be completed in the next 3 to 5 years. 503-622-3101 or www.theresort.com
