SUNDAYS
Sunday Morning Sunrise Paddles. So you would rather wake up early than stay up late? In other words you always get the worm! Come paddle with us for a couple hours on Sunday mornings from 8-10am. This is on a local lake within minutes of the Mt. Hood Adventure shop in Government Camp. Price includes kayak or canoe (delivered), PFD, paddle, guide and sometimes even a little snack! These are very popular trips. Advance reservations required.

Wire Sculpture with Cabachon at The Arts Cabins. Learn to wire wrap a cabochon into an elegant, one of a kind pendant. Some experience in wire wrap will make for a more enjoyable class experience. We will work with copper wire to learn sculpture techniques and then work with Sterling Silver wire. All tools and materials will be provided. June, July & August, 10am - 5pm. Saturday Night Sunset Hikes led by Mt Hood Adventure up Tom Dick Peak. A guide takes you out, provides a nice snack and a great time. You will not want to miss this hike. Everyone visiting Government Camp should make this a yearly excursion! Leaves at 7pm.

Sketching Class with Lesley Cheney-Parr at The Arts Cabins. This class is planned for beginners but welcomes the intermediate through advanced levels. Primarily an on-location sketching class that will give the student a chance to study pen and pencil techniques and methods geared to the natural setting of Mt. Hood - trees, rocks, water and space. We will use gesture, cross hatching, contour. At the same time you will be introduced to simplified composition and perspective. I demonstrate and you follow up. Individual attention is stressed and therefore suited to your level. 10am to 2pm. Tuition: $125.00, or $65 per day. Advance Enrollment Required: 6 students minimum, 12 students maximum. 503-272-3301

Hike & Kayak Combo Tour led by Mt Hood Adventure. This is the signature Mt. Hood Adventure summer tour. The hike starts from the Mt. Hood Adventure shop and goes through some of the most historic trails on Mt. Hood. The hike ends at Trillium Lake where the kayaks are waiting for you. The group hops in the boats for fun paddling and some of the best views of the mountain you will find anywhere. 3-4 hour tour: $100 per person (includes guide, kayak, PFD, paddle, shuttle and more memories than you can stuff in your head). Timberline Lodge to Frog Lake Hike on the Pacific Crest Trail led by Mt Hood Adventure. Join us on the spectacular 10 mile hike on the famous Pacific Crest Trail. This is an intermediate + hike due to the length of the hike. We shuttle to Timberline and pick you up at Frog Lake. A nice prepared meal is included mid-way through the hike (by one of our gourmet guides). This hike leaves Mt. Hood Adventure at 8am and returns at approximately 4pm. Cost: $100 per person.

Watercolor Sketching with Lesley Cheney-Parr at The Arts Cabins. This class is planned for the new painter but painters of all levels are welcome. This is an on location watercolor sketching class and is designed to introduce you to technical and to compositional matters including techniques of graduated washes, glazes, wet-in-wet, and using a variety of tools such as salt, rags, alcohol, sponges--you name it. Each class begins with a demonstration and then you paint with individual assistance. 3 sessions planned, 10am to 2pm Tuition: $125.00 , or $65 per day (must attend 1st day). Advance Enrollment Required: 6 students minimum, 12 students maximum.

Blacksmith Week at The Arts Cabins. You are invited to join some of the nation's best blacksmiths for a week of demonstrations and sales of original work. Watch the craftsmen at work! Torture Series- Gresham to Zigzag to Lolo Pass Road Bike Ride. Two options of 71 or 89 miles. Leaves at 8:00 a.m. from the Mt. Hood Aquatic Center parking lot, NE 17th and Kane in Gresham. A favorite of many Torture Series riders is Lolo Pass. Join us for number fourteen in the series as we head out towards Zigzag and beyond (if you dare!) to Mt. Hood and climb up forest roads for a beautiful view of the mountain and valleys. A total of 5,300 or 7,000 feet of pure climbing pleasure are here for the taking! Timberline Lodge hosts Smokey Bear’s Birthday Party on August 2nd from 10am to 3pm. Campfire programs at 7pm are held on Saturdays at Trillium and Timothy lakes and on Wednesdays at Wildwood Park. “Smokey’s Trail – Lunch and Learn” at Zigzag Ranger Station. 2008 Timberline Mountain Music Series at the historic outdoor amphitheater at Timberline Lodge. This family-friendly concert series will continue to feature folk, blues, country and Americana music. Performers include Mary Flower, Larry Wilder Trio, and a special tribute to Mt Hood and Timberline Lodge in songs and poems by local artists Julie McCarl, Will Frank, Paul Keller and Jon Tullis. 2:30pm
SUNDAY, AUGUST 10
Friends of the Forest volunteer workday at Timberline. The National Forest Foundation is sponsoring a project to refinish benches in the amphitheater and to repair hiking trails that surround the Lodge and link to the Timberline Trail. There will be a guest speaker who share interesting stories about the area during the lunch which is provided. Ages 7 and up, 9am - 1pm. Four-Hour Floating Spey Fishing School presented by The Fly Fishing Shop. This school is for those who have completed the Spey Casting Class and anglers who have had some spey casting experience. Emphasis will be on fly fishing skills and styles (using spey casting), applying the casts you have been taught to actual fishing conditions, reading of the water, selecting and effectively presenting your fly to the fish. A boat is used for transportation. Fishing will be conducted while wading.

Beginning Watercolor with Katy Neill and Vicki Mintkeski at The Arts Cabins. At the end of four days you will have a watercolor journal filled with painting techniques as well as some small paintings to frame. "Learn to Catch Trout the 1st Day" class presented by The Fly Fishing Shop. The Fly Fishing Shop Team is pleased to announce that we are offering all-day basic fly fishing classes to those who desire to experience and/or learn this timeless sport for themselves. Any and all necessary supplies will be furnished for the day of your class. This will include fly rod and reel, leader, tippet, flies and so on.
Our instructor will teach you all the skills needed to successfully fly fish on your own.

Learn to Fly Fish A River For Trout Class presented by The Fly Fishing Shop. This class is for those Fly-fishers who have a basic knowledge of casting, rigging, and fly selection with a desire to further acquire the skills needed to fish for, and catch trout in moving water. Newcomers are also welcome. With our guidance, you will learn the above, and gain the experience to fish a dry fly, wet fly, and nymph and also the rigging and presentation for each.

Hood to Coast Relay Race. "The Mother of All Relays". As the largest running relay race in the world, the Hood To Coast Relay stretches 197 miles from the top of Oregon's majestic Mt. Hood, beginning at Timberline Lodge, down to the beautiful Pacific Ocean beach in Seaside, Oregon. Mt. Hood Huckleberry Festival & Barlow Trail Days at Mt Hood Village Resort celebrates the rich bounty of natural resources found in the Northwest and on Mt. Hood. It is also a celebration of Native American and Oregon Trail history. Basic Fly-fishing Class: Beginner to Intermediate offered by The Fly Fishing Shop. These in-depth schools include many opportunities for hands-on learning with experienced fishing guide/instructor Ron Lauzon. Learn to use the fly rod, fly line and body to develop a strong fly fishing foundation with basic concepts. Progress to gain the skills and presentation techniques needed to become a worthy fly fishier. Learn the secrets and techniques that enable you to go out and catch the big one (or tell one whale of a tale about the one that got away).

Timberline Marathon Run & Walk This is Oregon's signature TRAIL running event and you also earn Trail Runner Trophy Series points! The beautiful course follows a stunning segment of the Pacific Crest Trail from historic Timberline Lodge high on Mt Hood to shimmering Timothy Lake nestled in the high Cascades. There is a 3,000 feet net elevation loss - yeah, it's like running downhill! Every finisher gets a custom medal and memories for a lifetime. Start Time is 8:30am.

Mt Hood Festival of the Forest. Take to the woods for a weekend celebration of Mt. Hood's culture, arts and forest. Over 12 hours of live music, food, beer garden, booth with activities and crafts, art contest and forest activities for the whole family at Wildwood Park.

Off to Mt Hood Cruise In. Cruise-in open to all collectible cars. Entries may drive the old Westleg Road to Timberline Lodge for special lunch and scenic photograph opportunity. Awards. Heritage Night at the Museum. Celebrate Mount Hood's outdoor recreation
heritage at the Mt Hood Cultural Center & Museum. This fundraiser to support the museum includes wine, hors d' oeuvres, music, silent and oral auction of art, books, recreation related tickets, passes and equipment. Historical characters from the past will be attending. Identify these people correctly and win a prize! This is a members only event, however membership will be sold at the door.

Northwest Mountain Running Championships. The lodge and the event start at 6,000'. There are more than 1,000 acres of terrain at Timberline, including 4,000' of vertical options. The ski area and biggest slopes in the Northwest will set the course up as one of the best mountain runs in the US. Terrain will include slopes, trails, skid roads, and any other shiggy deemed as worthy. There will be post event entertainment and awards. Starts at 12 Noon. $6,000 purse.
