It’s time to be free of cooking in a stuffy kitchen and enjoy a relaxing meal outdoors. It seems like a summer meal tastes better when surrounded by tall trees, nature sounds and refreshing mountain air. There are several great eateries in the Villages of Mt Hood that offer a variety of natural settings for dining.
Rendezvous Grill & Tap Room is well-known for “Serious Food in a not so Serious Place” including local and northwest seasonal ingredients, regional wines, beers (plus a full bar) and their infamous “devastating desserts.” Fully non-smoking, there are 2 outside dining areas as well as an inside dining room and tap room. The front patio is surrounded by a mature, native Oregon landscape. The backyard patio is located in the connecting breezeway to the Wy’East Book Shoppe & Art Gallery.
El Burro Loco, is a popular Mexican restaurant serving unique south-of-the-border entrees including wild boar tacos and portobello mushroom tamales. Their traditional Mexican fare is also easily devoured with classic margaritas and fresh in-season berry margaritas. The outside patio is a great place to people-watch and meet up with friends for a drink and nachos or a full meal. Mt Hood Roasters Restaurant is known as “Welches’ Living Room” for its laid back, comfortable and friendly atmosphere. The restaurant is named after the coffee they serve that is roasted locally in Rhododendron. You can enjoy breakfast and lunch 7 days a week inside, or dine outside next to tall evergreen trees. The menu offers up a full breakfast as well as “Travelers”, to-go bagels with bacon or sausage, scrambled eggs and melted cheese. They also have delicious beer doughnuts made from Mt Hood Brewing Company’s Ice Axe IPA. Mt Hood Roasters stays open Friday and Saturday nights to offer fun, local entertainment that is suitable for the entire family outside on their deck.
The Tartans Restaurant at The Resort at the Mountain boasts one of the most spectacular views in the Villages of the Mt Hood. The restaurant overlooks the first 9 holes of the golf course with Hunchback Mountain and the Mt Hood Wilderness as a gorgeous backdrop. Tartans offers a varied menu including a savory vegetarian black bean burger and anti-oxidant salad as well as herb-crusted lamb chops, buffalo steaks and seafood.
Zig Zag Inn is everyone’s favorite stop for a tasty, filling meal in a casual setting. Zig Zag Inn is a historic log building decorated with antler chandeliers, carved totems and other unusual artifacts collected over several decades. Zig Zag Inn is known for their pizza offered with popular toppings and some specialty items, too. They also offer steaks, ribs, burgers, salads and sandwiches with a full bar for the adults. The covered outdoor patio stays cool under the sun. When it’s chilly they have heaters so you can dine outside year-round.
Skyway Bar & Grill Chef Jason Horner is a 4th generation native Texan who cooks up his infamous family recipes that have been passed down over time. He also serves traditional and unconventional barbecue favorites that has has collected during his travels around the United States. When dining outdoors the surroundings of their large outdoor garden is an eclectic collection of artwork, fountains and flowers.
