Gift Ideas from the
Villages of Mt Hood

This holiday season, you can shop in the Villages of Mt. Hood for your most special gifts.  We can help you make the giving season just right for everyone on your list, whether you need a treat to wrap or a joyful day to remember.

Are you looking for a little something that is distinctively handcrafted?  Don’t miss Made on Mt. Hood, a showcase of work by local artisans.  You’ll see prints and original paintings, but you may also be drawn to a handcrafted box, a scented candle, or a work in glass.  Wy’East Book Shoppe and Art Gallery offers more fine selections of local artisans’ work.  Or you might find a book for those on your list interested in area history or the mountain’s flora and fauna, many autographed by local authors.  Heart of the Mountain in Welches carries unusual, beautiful linens and dishware, kitchen essentials, jewelry and accessories, and more.  Want to give a big gift?  Drop by The Gallery at Alder Creek for a whimsical selection of tall chainsaw log bears, trees, birds and even moose waiting for an equally big red gift bow.

Outdoor enthusiasts go through gear.  Pick up cool new activewear and winter fun items at Mountain Sports in Welches.  Better yet, combine your equipment item with a gift of playtime.  You could treat someone with a lesson or lift ticket for Mt. Hood SkiBowl, Mt Hood Meadows or Timberline.  There’s even snow tubing, with an automatic tube tow to the top of the slide and your choice of child-friendly or more adventurous slopes for up to $25 a day at Mt Hood SkiBowl.  Or you can enjoy tubing the old-fashioned way at Summit Tube Hill or Snowbunny by carrying the tube back up the hill after each ride.

At Mt. Hood Adventure in Government Camp you can book a holiday snowmobile, snowshoe or cross-country ski day with expert planners and guides.  No gear?  No problem.  Mt Hood Adventure, Mountain Tracks, Valian’s Ski Shop and Mountain Sports all have rentals for every size and level of experience.  The Fly Fishing Shop in Welches offers professionally guided Sandy River float trips and reminds anglers that Thanksgiving is the traditional kick-off of the winter steelhead season in the area.  If you’d be happy with a long white walk and a snowman-making session, don’t forget that the Zigzag Ranger Station has all you need to know about good places to hike and play in the Mt. Hood National Forest.  Have a delicious hot dinner in The Villages afterward to round out a perfect present of a day.

Learning new things is a fun and creative way to celebrate the season and yourself. Call The Arts Cabins at 503-272-3301 to sign up for one of their upcoming blacksmithing classes on the 20th and 21st of December.  There are also classes to reserve in watercoloring, beadmaking and many other arts for 2009.  The Arts Cabins are hosting the Blacksmith & Artisan Holiday Sale on November 28th, 29th & 30th, where you can pick up hand forged gifts and glass ornaments while enjoying hot cider.

Andrea’s Wine Gallery in Welches is the place to go for the wine enthusiast on your list.  You’ll find not only Pacific Northwest vintages, but fine imports from around the world as well as wine accessories and gifts.  Pick up a bottle to enjoy during a peaceful white Christmas or New Year’s celebration
The Villages of Mt Hood have lodgings available to fit your whole family, get-togethers with friends or a special romantic weekend for two.  Why not come up to Mt. Hood and give the gift of special time away with those who are most special in your life?  Cascade Property Management has comfortable, attractive vacation rental homes in wooded mountain settings for 2 to 10 guests.  See our story this issue on Holiday Recipes from area chefs to find beautiful meals you can prepare in your cabin kitchen.

Here at The Villages of Mt Hood, we look forward to helping you celebrate in your favorite winter style. We’ll see you for the holidays!
