The First Sign of Spring in the Villages of Mt Hood

Trillium ovatum, the Western Trillium, is a three-petaled white flower that welcomes spring to the Villages of Mt Hood!  For Village residents, the first sight of Trilliums is a friendly reminder that warmer days and greener views are just around the corner.  These familiar native plants dot the undercover of the forest with a spotted blanket of white among the twin flowers, Salomon's Seal, fiddle fern, sorrel, salal, Oregon grape and sword ferns.

Come Visit Them Anytime.

Now that spring is here, local waterfalls are breaking free of the winter’s ice and snow, just like the rest of us.  When you’re coming up to the Villages of Mt. Hood for a day trip or an overnight getaway, be sure and stop for a calming, refreshing interlude at one of the many waterfalls in the area.  Would your horse like to go hiking too?  Many area falls are located along trails open to livestock.  Call the Zigzag Ranger Station to check your destination and permits before you load up.

Spring Welcomes Songbirds to Mt Hood

In the early morning dawn, before daylight, the songbirds come to life in the forests of Mt Hood.  My favorite wake up call each morning is to just lie in bed, slowly greeting the day by listening to the calls, songs and often-unusual sounds of the forest’s springtime birds.

The Villages of Mt Hood boast some of Oregon’s lushest temperate rainforest, serene meadows and old-growth forests in a clean and green environment of breathtaking beauty. The area is dissected by the Sandy, Zig Zag and Salmon rivers as well as numerous creeks and waterways, all creating a special home to a multitude of birds.
