Wintery Events in the Villages of Mt. Hood

Snowpack Attack

January 2008 marks the 40th Anniversary of Mt. Hood Meadows.  You’ll find many specials that continue all through the final week of January, such as the $40 Learn to Ski or Snowboard Special: beginner lift ticket, 2-hour lesson and equipment rentals (for ages 13 and older).  Their Anniversary Weekend Celebration is January 26-27, with music, vendors, season pass giveaways, and special guests including entertainer Moe Dixon, voted #1 Best Après-Ski Show by Skiing Magazine.  Call 1.800.SKI.HOOD or 503.337.2217.

Snowshoe Tours Under the Stars

Mt. Hood Adventure is offering Bonfire Snowshoe Tours during President’s Day Weekend, February 15, 16 and 17, 2008.  From 6 to 9pm, their expert guide will take you into the wooded trails of the Mt. Hood National Forest for an unusual look at the nighttime wilderness and a warming bonfire. $75 per person. 1.888.422.4776.

New Gear for the Slopes

Mt. Hood Meadows’ February event lineup includes the Burton Super Tour Demo Stop during the weekend of February 16-18.  This is the largest demo tour in the snowboard industry, and you not only get to look, you can try!  This event is free.  Bring an ID and credit card, or your parents and their card if you’re under 18, and trade those cards for some time test-driving many new Burton products. 

Everyone Loves A Snow Day!

Here’s an event near The Villages that’s worthy of an overnight stay:  How about a rare taste of skiing history and benefiting a good cause while you’re at it?  Then sign up for Ski Historic Glade Trail Day on March 1, 2008.  Every year on the first Saturday of March, the Glade Trail is opened and groomed for this living history event. This full day outing, made possible by special permit from the Mt. Hood National Forest, is a chance to experience a historical way of skiing Mt. Hood. Skiers are shuttled to Timberline Lodge by bus, escorted down the 3.0 mile trail to Government Camp by local guides and the Mt. Hood Ski Patrol, and picked up for the return ride.  The day begins at 8am; the last bus is at approximately 4pm.  Morning coffee, lunch, an afternoon glass of wine, an après-ski party and prizes are on offer in this unique fundraiser for the Mt. Hood Museum and Cultural Center.
